Injuries to this area, whether a tear or strain, can cause intense ankle pain. The ankle is made up of three joints: the talocrural (main ankle joint), subtalar, and inferior tibiofibular joints.
Sprains occur when people twist their foot out of its normal position, causing the ligaments to stretch beyond their limit and form microtears. This is the most prevalent injury to the ankle and occurs often.
Ankle pain can is often unbearable and causes severe disability in the short and long term. Just a small fracture will make putting pressure on the joint almost unbearable. The two long bones of the proximal portion of the ankle are the tibia and fibula. The fibula is especially susceptible to fractures as it is a supportive bone for the tibia with a thin shaft. Other causes of ankle pain are gout, infection, traumatic arthritis, and osteoarthritis.
Most of the symptoms of arthritis are similar whether it's from traumatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, or rheumatoid arthritis. The condition involves inflammation of the joints, as well as the possibility of bone rubbing against bone due to wear and tear. Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are the most common forms of arthritis in the ankle.
When arthritis develops the inflammation causes pain and damage to the cartilage which impairs the ability of the joint to glide smoothly. This essentially wears out the joint at an increased rate and destroys its function. Regenerative medicine applies highly concentrated healing factors found in your own body to synthesize a reaction that your body cannot do on its own. Orthobiologics such as platelet-rich plasma, mesenchymal stem cells, extracellular fiber matrix, and alpha-2 macroglobulin accelerate the healing process and regeneration of tissues to regain lost function.
The Team at Spectrum Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine Center can perform a physical examination and review your provided X-rays to confirm the extent of your ankle pain when it doesn't resolve on its own. The detailed diagnosis will give them the tools and insight they need to accurately treat your lingering ankle pain whether it's a new or old injury.
We help people avoid surgery and get back on their feet! Our goal is to eliminate your pain and increase your lifestyle!
